Signs of an overheating engine can include the hood of your vehicle feeling hot to the touch; you may hear a clicking sound under the hood, or your temperature gauge may be reading at a hot level. Whatever it is that has tipped you off that there is a problem, Miles Chevrolet wants to help. We encourage you to give us a call to schedule an appointment to have the following parts of your automobile checked out.

Cooling System

While your cooling system can function at too cold of a temperature, we more frequently see engines overheating because something is going wrong with the cooling system. Most commonly, a leak in your cooling system will prevent proper temperature control.

Water Pump

Rust can build up over time on your water pump. After all, you're dealing with metal and water. Erosion can also take place, which would result in holes or damage to the pump. When this happens, your vehicle will not have enough coolant running through it to maintain a proper engine temperature.

Radiator

As your radiator expands and contracts during your automobile use, this can lead to cracks and damage that affect its performance. A radiator can also become worn out from frequent revving of your engine over time. When the fans in your engine aren't performing optimally, expect to have engine overheating problems.

Thermostat

It's relatively easy for us to inspect the thermostat in your vehicle. Still, it's not something we would do if you're not noticing a temperature fluctuation that's out of the ordinary. If your thermostat is stuck closed, coolant isn't going to have the opportunity to pass through easily.

Hoses and Belts

A belt can snap while you're in the middle of driving, and this could cause your engine to overheat in a matter of minutes. Similar damage can occur to your hoses over time, and this can cause the coolant to be ineffective. Luckily, these are common parts that we can replace as long as you let us know there's an issue that needs to be addressed.

It's our goal to provide you with fast and effective service for your vehicle. If you are concerned that your engine is overheating, make sure that you let us know. We want to prevent damage from occurring that could be costly in the long run. Give us a call today!
