Corvette Racing is set to go global in 2022, with plans to compete in races all over the world. The iconic American sports car team has been competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship since 1999 and has won 12 championship titles. But now, they're looking to take their racing prowess to new heights by expanding into other racing series.
Plans to Win the 24 Hours of Le Mans
In a recent interview with Racer, Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan confirmed that the team will be going to Le Mans in 2022, but they haven't decided which series they'll compete in. Their options are either the World Endurance Championship or the European Le Mans Series. Fehan said that whatever series they compete in, they want to be competitive and win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Plans to Compete in 24 Hours of Spa
Fehan also confirmed that Corvette Racing will be racing at the 24 Hours of Spa by 2022, part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. But he said that they are still assessing which cars to go with for this race. They could use the Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R or their new C8.R prototype racer.
Gregg Olson, marketing manager for Chevrolet Performance, said that the C8.R is already getting a lot of interest from racers worldwide. He said that they're seeing a lot of teams wanting to buy them and race them in different series.
Competition in 24 Hours of Silverstone
The C8.R isn't the only Corvette racing in Europe in 2022. The team is also planning to race the Corvette Z06 at the 24 Hours of Silverstone. This race is part of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, and it's sure to be a competitive event. The Corvette Z06 is a powerful car, and it should do well against the competition.
Corvette Racing plans to make a significant impact on European racing in 2022. With their new C8.R prototype and a variety of other cars to choose from, they're sure to be a force to be reckoned with. So make sure to keep an eye on them as they make their way around the world, competing in some of the most prestigious races.
