The Northeast Community Fund has been serving Decatur and the surrounding communities since 1969. Founded by St. John's Lutheran Church, in conjunction with Superior Welding, CB&Q Foundries, and Wagner Castings, this organization helps local families in need. Although they started small, serving only one neighborhood, the Northeast Community Fund expanded greatly in the years that followed.
Originally a small food pantry, the Northeast Community Fund's scope and services have grown over the years. As a result, they have moved to several different locations that have better served their needs. In the beginning, their headquarters was located on East Condit Street. They then moved to East Orchard Street before ending up on North Water.

In 2017, the community leaders banded together to initiate a campaign to raise funds for a 17,000 square foot building. This building is meant to allow more people to access more services. On top of providing food support, the Northeast Community Fund helps move people out of poverty. They also offer financial assistance to those facing hardships. Other services currently offered include a clothing room, homeless support services, and help meeting furniture and household needs for local families.
Ultimately, this organization considers itself to be made from the community, for the community. They are committed to providing care to those who need it the most in Decatur. Currently, they are helping thousands of families in the community live a better life.
